On Intwood farm this week we are quite excited as the Lucerne (aka Alfalfa), drilled a couple of weeks ago has now come through the ground and is establishing nicely, fortunately nourished by the recent rain showers.
This is a new crop on the farm and will be used to feed the cattle this coming winter as we convert the farm to a forage based feed system.
This is an environmentally friendly advance in our production, as the Lucerne not only produces great feed, but also fixes nitrogen into the soil thus reducing fertilizer input and improves soil condition.
