We’ve seen a definite shift in the seasons (and the weather!) this month.
Our contractors arrived in force to help us take our annual silage crop, cutting and baling both the grass and Lucerne (alfalfa) crop.
This is a vital time for us as we need to produce enough forage to keep the cattle through the winter. It is also important to have good forage to produce quality grass fed beef; we were very lucky to get a really good cut that was baled and stacked before the rain came – phew!!.
The silage will now sit in store for at least 6 weeks to cure. When needed we can start to think about using it for feed; at the moment the cows are enjoying plenty of summer grass on the meadows.
