As you know, it’s not all about the cattle here at Intwood Farm. We’ve been busy harvesting throughout July. The rapeseed crop we are harvesting now was sown last August. The lovely yellow flowers you see in the Spring soon dry to red/brown pods and the seed is extracted to sell, primarily for oil or birdseed. The name Rapeseed comes from the Latin word “Rapus” meaning turnip (we’re full of useful information here) and of course nothing goes to waste, the straw is baled and used for cattle bedding throughout the winter.
