Here at Intwood Farm we have made the difficult decision to sell most of our crossbreed cows and concentrate on four breeds of pedigree cattle, Limousin, Simmental, Highland, with special emphasis on Traditional Herefords (shown here in the picture below). We will still continue to sell Hereford and Highland beef through the Intwood Farm Butchery.

Traditional Herefords are hardy and thrive on grass. They are particularly good for conservation grazing (the use of semi-feral or domesticated grazing livestock to maintain and increase the biodiversity of natural or semi-natural grasslands, heathlands, wood pasture, wetlands and many other habitats). We participate in a number of these schemes working alongside environmentalists. This year-round grazing makes the Hereford highly sustainable and the rich grass diet gives the meat it’s unique marbling, making it tender and moist.
Highland Cattle are exceptionally hardy with a natural and unique ability to convert poor grazing efficiently. They are remarkable for their longevity, with many Highland cows breeding at over 18 years of age and having borne fifteen calves. Highland cows are raised primarily for their meat, which is growing in popularity due to being lower in cholesterol than other forms of beef.
Limousin & Simmentals will still be bred here at the farm where we hope to produce pedigree bulls to sell to commercial farms.
